This is really an excellent Civil War book written in 1905 by this Civil War veteran who was an officer throughout the entire war, first in the Eastern Theater in 1861, then in the Western Theater the following year, including his last campaigns in Sherman's armies, 14th Corps, all the way through Tennessee, Georgia, South and North Carolinas. His discharge was June 8, 1865, returning to Milwaukee as a brevet colonel. He also reviews the four best Civil War generals, Grant, Sherman, Thomas, and Sheridan. I highly recommend this for Civil War history readers.
