Soon, she’s assembled a zany, crime-fighting urban family consisting of her obnoxious ex-CIA agent neighbor; her commune-dwelling, wild child best friend; and a sexy Scottish hacker bent on wooing the commitment-phobic Jeanne. But as Jeanne and her friends uncover a string of lovers and a web of family secrets stretching back to the Middle East, Jeanne is forced to confront a dark family secret of her own.

Hagar Last Dance A Jeanne Pelletier mystery Book 1 edition by Maureen Klovers Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it.. The protagonist is one I can care about. I want to see more of her and more of her interesting and fun cast of characters.

I also want to see more of Jeanne's DC. It's not the DC of political thrillers nor George Pelicanos's Washington. Maureen Klovers takes us to the parts of Washington I don't often see in books.

The plot built throughout the book and was intricate an surprising. Jeanne is a flawed but captivating hero. She cares about people and made me care about her.

It's clear the author knows or has researched lots of areas, but the doesn't bore us with the information. She uses it to color the book and make it intriguing.

I look many more Jeanne Pelletier books.

Hagar Last Dance A Jeanne Pelletier mystery Book 1 edition by Maureen Klovers Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

A well-written thriller set in Washington, DC. The realistically-drawn characters are complex, the plot moves along with unexpected twists and an unpredictable, yet satisfying, outcome, and the book has many references to somewhat less well-known local sites, giving it the flavor of a book written by someone familiar with the side streets, back alleys, and local history of Washington. At the same time, it weaves in characters from and references to Middle-Eastern culture, mores, and politics, and raises interesting questions about crime and punishment. I look forward to reading more installments of the Jean Pelletier series.
There's a lot going on in this mystery. I found it highly original and entertaining. This is the debut mystery by Maureen Klovers, and she shows a lot of promise. I look forward to reading her next book. A little nitpicking--I don't think the subplot about Jeanne's early life needed to be part of the story, but, on the other hand, I wish Yashima's background had been described in more detail. The locations are spot on and the book is a page turner. I recommend that you read this book.
This is a smart, funny, tricky, and highly intelligent mystery with a super protagonist in Jeanne. I haven't encountered many novels this tuned into DC and its residents. There were no false notes in the people (loved Jerry's declaration of why he had time to help her) , the locations (she nailed GMU, the local bars and restaurants, and the National Cathedral) , and the culture (especially at the law firm.) Even better, Klovers provides a interesting look into Islam and some of the long standing problems in the Middle East. This is an extremely well written novel which deserves a broad audience. THanks to Netgalley for the ARC- I'm looking forward to more from Klovers. HIGHLY recommend.

What a wild ride this book was! Jeanne is really just as multi-talented and multi-focused as the book information says on . I smiled often at some of the snappy conversations that she took part in and the writer's style of writing. Maureen Klover really does know how to put some interesting people together. Even Jeanne's friends and family are NOT vanilla in any way. Its actually a wonder that Jeanne and her friend Lily can keep their day jobs, because of all the investigating they are doing on their own. Well, not totally on their own because of the assorted "chosen family" Jeanne has, who help. Jeanne's real life sister, Vivienne puts her hand in to help as well. And that sexy Scottish guy? Fergus, He was such a great addition and added some romance to the story. In the beginning its mainly him being attracted to her but he's gaining ground with her. He's just got so much going for him if only she would really look. His sexy accent is getting her attention and he does make her laugh. If you like a lot of action, surprises, twists, turns, some romance, mystery, good friendships, and plenty of other, secondary interesting people, pick this book. It really had it all.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoyed reading this book! Clever and exciting development of the story. I feel like I am watching a movie. Looking forward to reading more volumes of Jeanne Pelletier mysteries.
A truly enjoyable book. Exotic and everyday worlds converged improbably in a tale of astonishing intrigue. It was highly imaginative, entertaining, and sometimes hilarious. Beyond the mechanics of the plot and the portraits of the characters, the story offered philosophical glimpses into notions of justice, revenge, guilt, and forgiveness, delivered with unaffected brevity, clarity, and, yes, humor. A book that was easy to read and easy to love.
This was a fun read. I love a good mystery and this one had a good plot and a nice twist. One of the reasons I purchased the book because I am a belly dance and enjoy reading books that feature belly dance in the story line. Unfortunately that is the area this book lacked. Yes the person who solves the mystery is a belly dance, but she could have been anything because it really doesn't figure much into the plot.
